How a job runs

  1. Send us the shopfront

A photo and rough measurements are enough to start. Call, WhatsApp or use the form.

  2. See it on your building

We draw the sign and show it on a photo of your premises, with a written quote.

  3. Made in our workshop

Cut, fabricated, wired and finished in Ballinora, then tested before it leaves.

  4. Fitted by us

Our own team removes the old sign and installs the new one. No subcontractors.

A father and son who make every sign themselves

Roeen Wafa learned the trade in Afghanistan, starting in 1993. His son Shahab works alongside him on every job. Now the same standard comes out of our own workshop just outside Cork city.

Wafa Signs Ireland is a family-run sign maker based in Ballinora, Co. Cork, on the south-west edge of Cork city. We design, make and fit shopfront signs, 3D built-up and illuminated letters, light boxes, LED neon, laser-cut and CNC-routed signs, printed signs and vehicle graphics. Everything is cut, built, wired and finished in our own workshop and fitted by our own team. Our recent Cork work includes Phonetastic, Dixy Chicken, Speedo, Sky Smoke 1 and Smoke City on South Main Street. We cover Cork city and county, install anywhere in Ireland, and every quote is free and written.

Questions

Do you make and install signs outside Cork?

Yes. We are based in Ballinora, just outside Cork city, and we design, make and install signs for businesses anywhere in Ireland. Our own team carries out every installation.

How much does a shop sign cost?

Every sign is quoted individually, because size, materials, lighting and access change the price a lot. A flat printed panel costs far less than illuminated built-up letters. Send us a photo and a rough idea of what you want and we will send a written quote, free.

Do I need planning permission for a shop sign in Ireland?

Often, yes. Signs on business premises are controlled by Class 1 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001. A sign is only exempt if every letter is 300 mm tall or less, any logo is 600 mm or less, nothing is more than 4 m above the ground and the total on the front is no more than 0.3 m² per metre of frontage. Most built-up fascia letters are bigger than that, so most new shop signs need permission. We supply drawings and photo mock-ups for the application. Our planning guide explains the rules.

What is the difference between face-lit, halo-lit and edge-lit signs?

Face-lit letters have LEDs inside and a translucent acrylic face, so the whole letter glows. Halo-lit letters have an opaque face and the LEDs shine back onto the wall, outlining each letter with light. Edge-lit signs feed light into the edge of clear acrylic so engraved or cut detail glows.

Do you make the signs yourselves?

Yes. Every sign is designed and built in our own workshop in Ballinora, using our own machinery for CNC routing, laser cutting, welding and wide-format printing. We do not send work out to other sign makers.

Can you design my sign if I do not have a logo?

Yes. Design is done in-house. We can work from a sketch or an idea, prepare clean artwork and show you a mock-up of the sign on a photo of your building before anything is made.

What materials do you work with?

Acrylic (clear, opal and coloured), aluminium and aluminium composite, stainless and mild steel, PVC foam board, timber and MDF, and printed and cut vinyls. We recommend a material once we know where the sign will go and how long it needs to last.

What signage work have you done before?

In Cork we have made and fitted shopfront signs for businesses including Phonetastic, Dixy Chicken, Speedo, Sky Smoke 1 and Smoke City. Before that, from 1993 in Afghanistan, our work included 3D lettering for an international airport terminal, channel letters for Sony outlets, and shopfronts, light boxes and interior signs for cafes, restaurants, gyms and retailers.
